End of Term 2 2008
The kids are on the plane tonight, back home after a great term. I heard nothing but praise for their efforts during this term: they participated in the sports, they were a joy to the boarding house, worked well in class and were a good influence with the other kids. Congratulations all round!
Tonight we went to Ellie's Music night at Indooroopilly Primary School, where they have two Strings Orchestras, two brass bands and two choirs. The Tiwi kids were most welcome and the school Principal went out of her way to assure them of their welcome. Such things are possible when most of the teachers have been on the staff for years and years.
Alistair Lynch was there once again supporting the Tiwi kids as he has since they first arrived. Next term will be a big one for us with Tamara Kerinaiuia and Ivan Fernando joining the team and with Josetta commencing at Toowoomba TAFE.
The St Vincent de Paul Society are unstinting with their support, with Laurie of Toowoomba attending the special Aboriginal night at Downlands and with the Kenmore Conference and State President and his whole team proud of the kids performance. Well done!
Have a look at this: "Waverley's Dream" - a story of a kid, Waverley Stanley who went away to school, and then devoted his life so others have the same opportunity. We were with Waverly in the March 24, 08 report to you. http://www.abc.net.au/indigenous/tv_video/message_stick.htm?program=indigenous&pres=s2273916&story=1
