First Boarder's Home Weekend 2007

The kids spent Sunday afternoon at 'the Beach', at Southbank. Wendy almost made it into the photo.

On Friday night they were the guests of Indooroopilly Swimming Club, on Saturday at the Greater Brisbane Junior Tennis Club at University of Queensland, and they took up the Offertory gifts at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Kenmore on Saturday night.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul put on a Pizza meal fo the Tiwi kids after mass.

Much of the time during this home-weekend was just sitting around watching Cable TV. They were pretty tired after all the work. You will be pleased to know they all look good, all the healthy food and the safe environment is paying off.

Ellie and her friend Nina gave the boys a hard time on Sunday - you can't even ride a Crocodile or Shark without some girl giving you a hard time ! I need to work it out better for the kids had to walk back to Downlands from the bus on Monday. we will work something out with the Toowoomba St Vincent de Paul Society next time.

The kids are settling in well at school. The Sydney papers had a story this weekend about a mixed race aborigine kid who was into car thieving and drugs who got a chance at St Josephs and is now doing a law degree.

I am sure Tiwi kids can achieve anything and if we keep working together we will make sure the schools and the universities help the kids move to where they want to be. We miss Therese and we need to talk with her about the opportunities on the island and in Darwin

We need to keep these kids at Downlands for the whole year and beyond if all the work is to pay a dividend for the community.

They will be home on the Friday before the Tiwi Grand-final and when they return to Downlands, their next trip to Brisbane will be for Ellie's first communion.
